The Central Government has enacted the National Food Security Act2013 to provide food security to economically weaker families. Under thisscheme 35 kg food grains is distributed for each Antyodaya (AAY)   ration card and 5 kg food grains is distributed for each member in Priority House Hold(PHH) ration card free of cost.

The state government’s ambitious`Anna Bhagya” scheme has beensuccessfully implemented in Chikkamagaluru district from July 2023, underwhich additional 5 kg rice is being distributed free of cost to the Antyodaya AAY and Priority House Hold (PHH) card holders.

 

Details of projects underway in the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs for the year 2024-25

 

1. NFSA Scheme

As per the National Food Security Act-2013, 35 kg foodgrains(Rice+Ragi) is distributed for each AAY ration card and 5 kg foodgrains(Rice+Ragi) is distributed for each member in PHH(BPL) Cards free of cost.

 

2. Annabhagya Scheme-Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) 

From July 2023 under the Annabhagya Yojana, along with the 5 kg foodgrains being distributed under the National Food Security Act to each beneficiary of Antyodaya and PHH Ration Cards, it has been decided to supply
an additional 5 kg foodgrains by the State Government making a total of 10 kg foodgrains.

Until the supply of additional 5 kg foodgrains of state quota, it has been to transfer cash instead of foodgrains. The State Government has ordered the seniorto transfer cash through Direct Benefit Transfer to the bank account ofmember.female member in the ration card at the rate of Rs.34/- per kg perunderIn the year 2024-25 from April to December the amount is transferred the DBT scheme to the beneficiaries. The Government distribute has decided to rice instead of DBT from January 2025. Additional 5 kg rice distribution started from February 2025.

 

3. Minimum Support Price Scheme 2024-25

Under the Minimum Support Price Scheme of 2024-25, the Governmenthas fixed the price for Paddy, Ragi and White Jowar purchased from farmers as below.

Ragi

In Chikkamagaluru district 8 Ragi purchase centers have been opened.18,463 farmers have registered to sell 3,04,966.00 Qtl. of Ragi and 2,96,252.50 Qtl. of Ragi has been purchased from 16,825 farmers as on 30.06.2025.

Paddy

4 paddy procurement centers have been opened in Chikkamagaluru district under the Minimum Support Price Scheme, but only 05 farmers have registered and none of the farmers have sold paddy to the procurement center.
